Ranges

BTSA members use the Steve Johnson Range (SJR) in northeast Calgary, and several range facilities (50-metre and 200-metre) at the APRA's Homestead facility in Kananaskis country. Steve Johnson Range

The Steve Johnson range is rated for handguns of any calibre, black powder rifles and .22 rimfire rifles. No centrefire rifles or shotguns may be shot at this range. The calendar on the APRA website (http://www.albertarifle.com/forum/calendar.php) will provide details regarding open hours.




Homestead Shooting Facility

The BTSA oversees use of new (in 2011) range facilities at the APRA Homestead Shooting Facility at Sibbald Flats.





The range facilities are composed of two 50-metre pistol bays. 50 East is approved for handgun, any caliber, and shotgun (no aerial shotgun).50 West is approved for handgun, any caliber, centrefire rifle, up to .308 and shotgun, including aerial shotgun. The 200-metre convertible range which is approved for rifle (up to .338 Lapua) or can be configured for action handgun shooting. The 200 metre range can be used as either a 100-metre OR a 200-metre range at any one time.

Access to the Homestead facilities is limited to BTSA members and approved members of other APRA member clubs, and is controlled by key access, determined by the BTSA Executive. BTSA members can request an application for key approval by contacting BTSA at info@btsa.ca.

These ranges are used regularly for IPSC, IDPA and other organized shoots, which will prevent drop-in use of some or all of these ranges. You are advised, before driving out to the range, to check the calendar on the APRA website (www.albertarifle.com) for information regarding availability of the range facilities.
